NEW VENTURE: Allyson Boulton, new landlady of the Black Bull in Cockermouth, with her daughter Kealy

Allyson Boulton, 48, of Aspatria, has taken over at the pub, on Main Street, after previously working at the town’s Fletcher Christian Tavern and Wordsworth Hotel.

She said: “I have been working in pubs for a long time but I had never had the chance of running my own, so when this became available I decided to give it a go. I am very excited about the opportunity.

“I have had plenty of support from locals and many of my regular customers have followed me.

“I have been busy and had people in every night.”

Allyson hopes to start serving food in the next two to three months and will show sports on the big screen.

She also hopes to form a Sunday league football team and hold more entertainment nights.

Allyson has employed her two daughters Bryony and Kealy and professional singer Devonne Mattinson.

She added: “Having Devonne work for me is a big plus as it will hopefully encourage more people to come and enjoy the music we will have on offer.

“She will perform at our opening night some time in August.”
