WORKINGTON-based golf player Will Bowe is facing the biggest dilemma of his life - choosing between a professional career and farming.

Bowe combines his amateur golf career with helping to run his family’s beef and dairy farm at Winscale, near Workington.

The 25-year-old county champion will this year have to choose whether to take over the running of the farm from his father or turn professional.

He will test himself by taking part in the European Tour School qualifiers in early autumn, as well as the big amateur events like the Lytham Trophy and Brabazon Trophy.

Bowe said: “It’s a big year for me because my dad is coming up to 60 and he wants me to make a decision on what I’m going to do.

“I’m undecided but I want to give it one more crack as an amateur and see if I am good enough to turn professional.”

Bowe tuned up his game in impressive style last month when he won the Appleby 36-hole Open Scratch with his score of 140 after his second round score of 63 made up for an opening 77 in blustery conditions.

Before teeing off at Appleby, he had already completed jobs around the farm after getting up shortly after 6am.

His score reduced his handicap and he hopes to end the year on plus three.
