Crowds flock to Aspatria Gala

Aspatria’s gala day on Saturday certainly had diversity, from Bollywood style to Gladiator style.

Crowds lined the length of the town's main street to watch the procession.

Guests included the spectacular dancing, stilt-walking fairies, the Barracudas, from Barrow, and music provided by the Penrith Brass Band, Lairds of Dixie and drum group, Samba Bandits.

Locals entered into the spirit with various imaginative floats and acts, plus , Bollywood and street dancers.

Organiser Wendy Duncan said she had been delighted at the response from the community and thanked all those who had entered or helped.

The Harlequin Performing Arts Group won the spirit of the carnival award and Kevin Bouch and John Creighton, along with the Loch Ness Monster, won the trophy for the most memorable performance. Carnival Queen was nine-year-old Chloe Dunn.
