A crunch service designed to help residents get rid of extra domestic waste is being provided in Aspatria and Silloth this month.

The service is planned for towns in parts of the Allerdale council area where there are no Household Waste Recycling Centres.

A refuse vehicle which can crush up waste will be sited in Aspatria’s Queen Street car park between 11.30am and 2pm and at Skinburness Road car park in Silloth between 9am and 11am tomorrow.

The areas will be cordoned off so that users can get in and out safely and ensure a steady flow of vehicles. Allerdale council has asked that people who arrive early with waste are patient and do not fly tip.

The long-term future of the crunch is reliant on the public working within these guidelines and if fly-tipping happens before the vehicle arrives, Allerdale council may reconsider where the service is based.

Items that can be disposed of as part of the crunch include household waste, furniture and carpets. Commercial and electrical waste cannot be taken.
